The AAB is the cable winding and unwinding device used in Jost cable laying technology – a robust, foldable stand onto which the cable drum is placed to allow for controlled unwinding or winding. The cable unwinds under controlled braking via the standard belt brake, while a Jost cable pull machine pulls at the other end of the trench. Two load capacity classes cover the requirements: the AAB 3 for drums up to 3.5 t, the AAB 6 for drums up to 6 t – same construction and mounting size, higher load capacity. The spherically mounted axle keeps the stand stable even on uneven ground, where a rigid support would tip over.

Standard band brake – Controlled unwinding isn’t an option, it’s standard: The band brake prevents the cable drum from over-unwinding and keeps the cable taut. When pulling cable downhill, the braking torque – adjustable up to a maximum of 7,500 Nm – prevents the cable from dangerously sliding downhill on its own. Can be equipped with a second brake upon request.
Stable on rough terrain – The spherically mounted axle compensates for uneven ground; the stand remains secure even on difficult terrain where a rigid support would tip over.
Foldable and portable – The support elements fold up, and the transport frame allows the unit to be moved compactly from one construction site to another.
In combination with Jost cable pull machines – a cable reel and unrolling stand and cable pull machine from a workshop in Langnau: While the winch pulls at one end, the AAB holds and brakes the drum at the other end – ensuring controlled unwinding along the entire route.

Features
Both models come standard with a band brake – a version without a brake is not available because the braked roll-off is a safety-critical feature. The standard equipment includes the foldable frame side panels and the 70 mm diameter aluminum shaft. Optional extras include a second band brake (braking torque 7,500 Nm each), the 70 mm diameter aluminum shaft, conical or cylindrical centering sleeves, and a two-piece transport frame. Upon request, Jost can configure the device for other load capacities or drum dimensions.
