Safety starts with the construction

Cable pulling involves high forces. With Jost cable pull machines, protection against these forces is built right into the design – not just in how they are operated – and is maintained through service and training.

Calculating the borderline case

A rope break is the scenario no body wants – and that is precisely why Jost did not rule it out, but instead analyzed it in detail: accelerations, speeds, and the forces involved were calculated and measured in tests.

The protective grille

The visible result: a man-high, hot-dip galvanized steel grille, including foot and shin protection, serving as a vertical barrier between the winch and the operator’s side. If the haul rope snaps, it hits the grille – not the operator. The operator stands safely behind the grille at a safe distance.
Folds down for transport and access; standard on every Jost machine, not an option.

What the machine itself can do

The machine provides protection even when no one is operating it. In addition to the protective guardrail, this includes the robust construction machinery, the anchoring aids, and the tarpaulin cover with passive protection against the effects of rope breaks.

The operator remains at a safe distance

Safety also means not allowing anyone to work in hazardous areas. The operator controls the machine from outside the danger zone using a radio remote control. And instead of sending a person into the cable trench, an infrared camera provides the view.

Inspected – once a year

The products that opdesign and Jost develop and test in trials comply with current safety standards in modern construction machinery. And safety is guaranteed: During its annual service, every device undergoes testing on our own test bench, including all required inspections. Responsibility for safe operation lies with the operator – by conducting the annual inspection, they fulfill the required inspections and can provide complete documentation of them.

Built to be safe, designed for safe operation

Design safety is only fully effective if operators are aware of it.

That is why “cable pulling safety” is a standard training topic at Jost. Anyone who operates a Jost machine is familiar with its behavior under extreme conditions and the danger zone. This means that safety standards are not only in place but can also be demonstrated to supervisors, clients, and occupational safety authorities.
